“Advanced Maternal Age” outdated as “Old Maid or Spinster”


This morning it occurred to me that the term “advanced maternal age” is as outdated as the term “old maid or spinster.” In the medical community, if a woman gives birth over age 35, the physician will most likely write on her chart Advanced Maternal Age.  I compare this to

  1. I am lucky I do live in an area of the country were the over 40 mommy is pretty much the norm. It is weird whe I first got prego I was worried about all the "over 40" complications I had heard about my ob was like "You are just fine your healthy, work out ect... I have first time moms at 46 that have no problems". So it feels good to know that we are not this weird breed of mommies. Of course I worry that I will look like grandma before she hits junior high, but so far my little one has kept me looking and feeling young.....I acutally feel better today then I did it my late 20's...Of course their are days that my body does not want to keep up with me but oh well we get over it! Love your blog.
